
POST-OP INSTRUCTIONS
Root Canal

Bleeding
-
Slight oozing or spotting from the treated tooth or gums may occur
-
Mild bleeding when brushing near the area is common
-
Pink-tinged saliva for the first day is normal

Activity
-
Rest for the remainder of the day after surgery.
-
Avoid strenuous activity for at least 48 hours.

Swelling
-
Swelling is common, peaking 2–3 days after surgery.
-
Apply a cold pack to your cheek for 15–20 minutes at a time during the first 24 hours.
-
After 24 hours, warm compresses may help reduce discomfort.

Diet
-
Stick to soft foods for the first day (soup, mashed potatoes, etc).
-
Avoid hard, crunchy foods (nuts, chips), sticky foods (gum, caramel) & very hot foods until numbness is gone
-
Chew on the opposite side if possible.

Pain & Discomfort
-
Mild discomfort is normal for a few days.
-
Take medications as prescribed:
-
Over-the-counter options like Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen
-
If antibiotics were prescribed, finish the full course.

Oral Hygiene
-
Continue brushing and flossing gently.
-
Be careful around the treated tooth, but don’t skip cleaning.
Caution:
Your mouth may remain numb for a few hours after your appointment. Please avoid chewing until the numbness has completely worn off to prevent accidentally biting your cheek, tongue, or lip.
