POST-OP INSTRUCTIONS

Bleeding

  • Some bleeding or oozing is normal for the first 24 hours.

  • Bite gently on gauze for 30–60 minutes as needed.

  • Contact us if bleeding persists or is heavy.

Running Outdoor Exercise

Activity

  • Rest for the remainder of the day after surgery.

  • Avoid strenuous activity for at least 48 hours.

Swelling

  • Swelling is common, peaking 2–3 days after surgery.

  • Apply a cold pack to your cheek for 15–20 minutes at a time during the first 24 hours.

  • After 24 hours, warm compresses may help reduce discomfort.

Diet

  • Stick to soft foods for several days.

  • Avoid hot, spicy, or hard foods.

  • Do not chew directly on the implant site.

  • Avoid using straws for 24–48 hours.

  • Mild to moderate pain is normal.

  • Take prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication as directed.

  • Avoid aspirin unless approved by your doctor.

Oral Hygiene

  • Keep the surgical area clean.

  • Brush gently around the implant, avoiding the surgical site the first day.

  • Rinse gently with warm salt water or prescribed mouth rinse starting the day after surgery.

  • Avoid alcohol-based mouthwashes.

Caution: Your mouth may remain numb for a few hours after your appointment. Please avoid chewing until the numbness has completely worn off to prevent accidentally biting your cheek, tongue, or lip.

Please contact our office if you experience persistent or worsening pain, excessive bleeding or swelling, numbness or tingling that does not resolve, fever, chills, or any other signs of infection, or if your implant feels loose or unstable.
