Crowns & Bridges

Root Canal_edited.jpg

Temporary/ New Crown

  • Avoid sticky, chewy, or hard foods (gum, caramel, taffy, ice).

  • Chew on the opposite side when possible.

  • If flossing, slide the floss out instead of lifting it up to avoid dislodging the crown.

  • If the temporary crown comes off, contact our office as soon as possible.

Sensitivity

  • Mild sensitivity to hot, cold, or pressure is normal and should improve over a few days.

  • Use desensitizing toothpaste if needed.

  • Over-the-counter pain relievers may be taken as directed unless otherwise advised.

  • Some tenderness of the gums or jaw is normal.

  • Rinsing gently with warm salt water (½ tsp salt in a cup of warm water) can help.

Final Crown

  • Once the permanent crown is placed, you may eat normally, but avoid very hard foods (ice, hard candy) on that tooth.

  • Continue brushing and flossing daily to keep the crown and surrounding gums healthy.

Bridges

Brush gently around the bridge and supporting teeth. Clean under the bridge daily using floss threaders, super floss, or a water flosser to keep the area healthy and prevent plaque buildup.

Caution: Your mouth may remain numb for a few hours after your appointment. Please avoid chewing until the numbness has completely worn off to prevent accidentally biting your cheek, tongue, or lip.

Please contact our office if pain or sensitivity worsens or lasts more than a few days, if your bite feels uneven or uncomfortable, or if a temporary or permanent crown becomes loose or comes off. We’re happy to help and want to ensure your comfort and proper healing.
